Teen applications for City Beets 2010 are available February 1; due March 15.
After February 1, applications can be downloaded or picked up at Wegerzyn Gardens MetroPark at 1301 E. Siebenthaler Ave. Dayton, OH 45414. Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm. Positions are limited and competitive. Call (937) 277-6545 for more info.

City Beets is a summer program designed to create active youth leaders through the process of growing, sharing and selling food.
In this program, youth ages 12-15 years old:
- Grow vegetables at the Community Garden at Wegerzyn Gardens MetroPark
- Learn leadership & job skills
- Sell food at the Saturday PNC 2nd Street Market
- Take local volunteer field trips
- Donate produce to the Food Bank in Dayton
- Prepare & eat snacks from harvested food
- Make new friends
When does City Beets Happen?
Four pre-summer sessions will take place on Wednesdays, May 5-May 26, from 4:30-6:00pm.
During the summer, City Beets youth meet for 8 weeks, June 15-August 7, 2010. Youth are expected to attend all sessions.
Summer sessions are as follows:
- Tuesdays: 9:00am-12:30 pm
- Wednesdays: 9:00am-12:30 pm
- Fridays: 9:00am-12:30 pm
- Saturdays: Only 2 Saturday Shifts required-Time varies.
Who should apply for City Beets?
Youth ages 12-15 years old who:
- Enjoy being outside
- Have an interest in gardening or business
- Can commit to attend all 25 sessions
- Want a unique summer experience!
What are the benefits?
Youth will learn valuable skills in business, communication, leadership, problem-solving, and cooperation. City Beets participants also receive gift cards totaling $200 for satisfactory participation.
