Key members of the Miami Valley’s cycling community converged in Dayton on August 14th, 2009 to develop a plan to move our communities closer to becoming Bike Friendly.  At the 2009 Miami Valley Cycling Summit, Miami Valley’s cycling agenda was presented directly to the public, advocacy groups, retailers, community leaders, and local officials in one location. Participants engaged in inspirational keynotes, educational workshops and charted a course for the future of making the region a better place to live, work and play.

The Summit not only brought the community together but provided a venue for the public to share their ideas with public officials, for communities to share successes and struggles surrounding their bikeway master plans, celebrate the successes experienced in the last 20 years, and get the region one step closer to achieving a bronze regional designation and fulfilling the implementation of the 2020 plan.
Key Achievements:

  • Over 300 Registrations and Attendees at the Summit
  • 85 in attendance at Grassroots Social at Flanagan’s Pub
  • 11 different community groups developed “Next Steps” in community workshops
  • Over 20 Exhibitors showcased regional cycling assets
  • 10 guests from across the country supported the effort

Some may ask, “When is the next cycling summit?”  If you are interested in supporting, hosting or sponsoring a cycling summit please feel free to contact Five Rivers MetroParks at 277-4374.
