Summer Update

Fishing from the banks just below Sunrise along the Great Miami River at Wolf Creek is one of Dayton’s best kept secrets. A summer morning sunrise from this vantage point is worth a stop to just pause and reflect. Of course, we understand if you can’t resist taking a photograph to enjoy all year long. This lush band of green offers visitors one of the best views of Dayton and surrounding historic buildings.

About The Park

This small urban park situated on a high bank above the Great Miami River offers scenic views of the river and the City of Dayton — and a wildlife viewing area. Steps lead down to the river for a closer look.

Accessibility

There are no restroom facilities at this location and accessibility is to immediate areas of the paved sidewalks.

Directions
Take Salem Ave. to Riverview Ave. and turn right. Continue onto Edwin C. Moses Blvd. Sunrise MetroPark is on the east side of the road, where the Great Miami River and Wolf Creek meet.

Take route 9 north on Main Street through downtown to Riverview Avenue and Edwin C. Moses Boulevard. The park is across from this intersection.

Conservation

Located at the juncture of Wolf Creek and the Great Miami River in Dayton, this small park is an excellent place to watch a surprising parade of wildlife including waterfowl, night herons, gulls, and sometimes bald eagles and ospreys.

Park Features/Amenities

Sunrise MetroPark is a tiny urban oasis conveniently located just north of downtown Dayton. Its walkways are filled with stunning views of the city’s skyline that change with the light of day. Prairie plantings and wildflowers draw in wildlife from the adjacent river habitat, and make the park a serene spot for relaxing. Catch a glimpse of the large and graceful blue herons that frequent the area. Watch the Wolf Creek spill into the Great Miami up close from the paved river walkway at the foot of the stairs.
