Accessibility Features in your MetroParks

MetroParks provides reasonable accommodations for those with disabilities, as per the guidelines of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) is a priority for Five Rivers MetroParks. All patrons, including those with illness, injury, or disabilities, have the right to use MetroParks services and sites and anyone with disabilities will not be discriminated against in the delivery of programs and services.

MetroParks provides accessible facilities, services, and programs to the extent required by the ADA. Individuals with disabilities may contact MetroParks to request accessibility services based on their needs. No otherwise qualified person with a disability shall, solely by reason of disability, be excluded from the participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination in MetroParks programs or activities.

The 2nd Street Market building has three accessible ramps, with parking spaces by both ramps on Second Street.

Aullwood Garden

The nature trail through the park is a combination of grass, gravel, soil and pavement. It is flat, but not ideal for wheelchairs.

Call (937) 275-PARK (7275) if you need special access Monday through Friday, from 8 AM to 5 PM or during public programs. There is one accessible port-a-john at the accessible parking lot. The house is not open to the public and is not ADA accessible. The path from the parking lot to the garden entrance is accessible (packed limestone). Gently rolling paths beyond the entrance and natural surface trails limit ADA accessibility. The trail surfaces include: gravel, grass, soil and chip and seal. No snow removal in winter. There are six park benches along the path in the garden areas. Visitors needing a solid surface can enter the “out” entrance at Aullwood Road and go up to the house and herb garden via the former driveway. The grade is steep.

There is ADA-accessible parking at the visitor’s center and lake parking lots. Both the farm and visitor’s center public restrooms have an accessible stall. Current drinking fountains are of the older style and work well for some, but not all wheelchair users. An accessible fishing pier is also provided. The visitor center contains an elevator.

Carriage Hill’s ADA-accessible boardwalk and fishing pier at Cedar Lake is located adjacent to ample parking, an ADA restroom and potable water.

A universal, height-adjustable changing table is available in both the men’s and women’s restrooms at the Historical Daniel Arnold Farm.

Cox Arboretum

Buildings, gardens and paved paths comply with ADA standards. The facility is accessible with the exception of natural trails and the tree tower.

Deeds Point

Deeds Point

All amenities of the park are accessible, including parking areas. There are no restrooms at this facility.

Englewood

Englewood

All restroom facilities at Englewood MetroPark are ADA accessible. There is accessible parking available along with an accessible nature trail in the Patty Shelter area.

Germantown

Germantown

There are two ADA accessible parking sites at the Twin Valley Welcome Center parking lot and at Morning Glory, Cottonwood and Sunfish shelters. Both restrooms adjacent to shelters are accessible. ADA drinking fountains are at Cottonwood, Morning Glory shelters and the Valley Overlook parking area.

Hills & Dales

Hills & Dales

Accessible parking sites are available at White Oak, Dogwood and Paw Paw Camps, with ADA-accessible restrooms at White Oak and Paw Paw Camps.

The boardwalk connecting Paw Paw and Dogwood Pond and the paved loop trail around the pond are also ADA-accessible.

The restrooms, picnic shelters, playground area and band shell are ADA accessible. There are two parking spots for people with disabilities in the parking lot. Two of the public restrooms have an accessible stall. There is one drinking fountain that works well for accessibility and two others that have dog watering capabilities.

Medlar

There is ADA accessible parking and a 2.25 mile paved section of the Great-Little Trail.

All parking lots have accessible parking. The reservable shelters are accessible. The farm and barn are accessible as are the restrooms at the farm, reservable area, pond lot and the Argonne picnic area. The first fishing pond is connected to the pond parking lot by a handicapped accessible asphalt path.

RiverScape

RiverScape is wheelchair accessible. Wheelchairs are welcome on the ice rink. RiverScape MetroPark received a certificate of excellence from the Access Center Dayton in recognition of our efforts to ensure that people with disabilities have complete access to the communities in which they live.

Sugarcreek

Sugarcreek

There are several ADA parking sites at the Trail Center parking lot off of Conference Road. The restrooms at the trailhead are accessible. The drinking fountains at the main trailhead are new and accessible for wheelchair users. There is a level, paved path that begins at the parking lot, travels past the public restroom and the drinking fountain and makes a quarter-mile loop through the scenic prairie. A picnic shelter with an accessible table is also located just off of the path.

ADA accessibility is limited to immediate areas of the paved sidewalks. There are no restroom facilities at this location.

Taylorsville

Accessible parking available. Accessible restrooms are located in the East, South and West parks as well as in the Reservable Area. The Blue Heron, Hilltop and Hackberry Shelters are ADA accessible.

Twin Creek

There are three ADA accessible parking sites at the Lake George parking lot.

Wegerzyn Gardens

Wegerzyn Gardens

The parking lot has curb cuts and ramps to the sidewalks. All pathways in the Formal Gardens and the Children’s Discovery Garden are handicapped accessible. Restrooms inside are ADA accessible.

Wesleyan

Wesleyan

There is ADA-accessible parking at both the main park and Adventure Central. The Adventure Central building is also accessible. On the trail spur that goes behind the Adventure Central building, the trail is accessible through the bridge.
